Firefly AS5
The
Fairey Firefly Mk4, 5 and AS series were developments
of the famous wartime Fireflies which flew off the
decks of British carriers in all theatres.
Powered
by a big Rolls Royce Griffon engine and with new
radiator configuration, clipped wings and an awesome
weapons inventory, the Firefly had a revitalized
career after the war, throughout the Korean conflict,
where it was an extremely effective ground attack
weapon and on into the Sixties with a variety of
air forces around the globe.
This
model was slated for Freeware release several months
ago.
However,
in light of the recent appalling accident involving
the restored RNH Firefly “204” at Duxford
in July 2003, Aeroplane Heaven have elected to release
this early work to the community to mark in some
small way the tragic loss of the Firefly's crew
and the lesser loss of a rare and beautiful machine.
This
is one of Bazzar's earliest models.
The
modelling techniques and tools have come a long
way since this aeroplane was first produced. So
please accept this release in the spirit in which
it is given. The model flies well thanks to the
skills of Henry in airfiles and dps but could be
heavy on frame rates if you run a slower computer,
in CFS2. So be warned!
She's
a treat to watch in FS2002, especially with the
new 'active camera' freeware accessory added to
your sim.
A
more up-to-date model, incorporating new animations,
better detail and more accuracy is currently under
way and will fly in CFS3 and FS2004/ Century of
Flight. We’ll keep you posted as and when
news is available.
In
the meantime, enjoy this depiction of a true classic
as a small tribute to the crew who met such an untimely
end in “204”.
